Rite Aid Pharmacies Again Committed to Assist Seniors with Medicare Part D Open Enrollment

By: Health News

The 2007 Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan open enrollment period begins November 15, and local Rite Aid (NYSE, PCX: RAD) pharmacies are again committed to helping educate seniors so they can make an informed decision about the best plan choice for their prescription needs. All Rite Aid pharmacies are offering a free detailed Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Guide, and every Rite Aid pharmacist is specially trained on Medicare Part D to help seniors and caregivers navigate through the numerous plan options. Rite Aid is also creating a special website, www.riteaid.com/medicareadvisor, so users can compare drug prices and get a complete list of plan options offered in their local area.

Rite Aid has teamed up with national Medicare prescription drug plan sponsors United Healthcare/AARP, Aetna, Health Net and SilverScript to offer detailed and helpful in-store educational materials and to reach out to Rite Aid pharmacy patients 65 years and older with a special Medicare Part D newsletter containing tips, information and step by step suggestions for seniors on how to pick the Medicare Part D plan that best suits their individual prescription needs.

“All 9,000 Rite Aid pharmacists have been specially trained on the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit and are available to answer questions and offer explanation on the intricacies of the program,” said Mark de Bruin, executive vice president, pharmacy. “We collaborated with leaders in the managed care industry to create user friendly detailed information on the Medicare Part D benefits and informative and helpful step by step tips for seniors to help them determine whether they have chosen the best Medicare Part D plan for their prescription needs.”

Rite Aid's special Medicare Part D website Medicare Advisor at www.riteaid.com/medicareadvisor will launch when all pertinent information on the 2007 program is provided by the federal government. Information on when the site will be accessible is updated daily on the site. Rite Aid's Medicare Advisor website will allow seniors to enter their current prescriptions and then sort through comparable plans and local availability. The website will be complete with information on the Plan benefits, deadlines for registering, details of each Plan and it will allow seniors to compare Plans side by side. Some Plans will include a link to on-line enrollment forms.

Rite Aid is also offering senior pharmacy customers 60 years and older additional benefits through its free Living More Senior Rewards program. Living More members receive a ten percent discount on most items every Tuesday, a ten percent discount on Rite Aid Brand products everyday, exclusive specials throughout the store and a customized on-line newsletter.

“Rite Aid is not only committed to making sure our senior patients are fully educated and understand the Medicare prescription drug benefit, but we are also committed to offering seniors value, savings and the tools they need to live a healthy lifestyle,” said de Bruin.

Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation’s leading drugstore chains with annual revenues of $17.3 billion and approximately 3,320 stores in 27 states and the District of Columbia.
